Envision your dressage freestyle accompanied by instrumental versions of your favorite popular songs or original music composed in your favorite popular style. Live band recording is truly the soundtrack of your life for the ride of your life.
Woodwind Studios producer, Kevin Hall, will assemble a band of professional A-list studio musicians in Austin, Texas to realize your dream through live music recording to match DVD of your choreography. Using live musicians to work with the horse, so to speak, will give your whole freestyle a more personal and natural aesthetic.
Woodwind Studios can arrange or compose, produce, and record instrumental music for freestyle in almost any style you can name, including classic and modern rock, motown, country, blues, hip-hop, Latin, jazz and contemporary.
For popular music, here's how it works: We'll start by finding music which can be performed successfully at your horse's gait tempos and for which sheet music is available. You can submit a list of songs to us or our staff will research popular music in your preferred style. Once you've narrowed choices to one song per gait, samples will be recorded on synthesizer for you to try. After you've tested tempos by riding to samples, Beth will create a piano arrangement to match the framework provided in your choreography video. The keyboardist uses this basic arrangement to "lay down" the synthesizer track for other musicians to follow. Kevin Hall then hires soloists such as guitar, bass, drums, and horn, and records individual parts to mix with the synthesizer track. All parts are mastered by recording engineer, George Coyne, at his Parrot Tracks Studio in Austin.
For original composition, here's how it works: Submit a list of your favorite popular music artists, songs and preferred style, such as blues or country. Producer Kevin Hall hires a composer fluent in the style to write original samples for each gait. After samples are approved, the music is arranged and recorded to match DVD of your choreography using the method described above.
Production schedule: Time required to produce live band freestyle music for Young Rider/Intermediare levels is 12-13 weeks; Grand Prix takes 13-14 weeks. Add 1 week to production for every 1-2 extra music samples desired. Production schedule does not include the time you take in selecting music and filming your choreography video. If you plan to compete in spring shows, we advise committing to your live band freestyle at least 4 months prior to your first competition.
Price for popular music: Cost for FEI Young Rider/Intermediare live band freestyle is $5,000. Grand Prix costs more due to length, added music, and greater number of transitions; price is $7,500. Price includes 3 music samples at Young Rider/Intermediare levels and 4 samples at Grand Prix. Additional music samples cost $100 each.
Price for original composition: Add $500 to prices quoted above. Additional music samples cost $150 each.
Deposit is required with balance due before individual instrument tracks are recorded. Any changes you request to engineered music are charged at a rate of $50 per hour.
