"It was fantastic!!! The judge at C was Cara Whitham... She said that it was what a freestyle should be." Susan Schneider
Are you tired of "lift the needle" freestyles lacking in musicality and with obvious splicing? Here's the Woodwind Studios advantage:
* Suitable music selection - correct meter and rhythm for each gait, no over-adjusted tempos * Musicality - complete measures and phrases, so that you never notice or hear a splice * Skillful tempo adjustment - accurate video analysis to determine best gait tempos * No long fades - each gait segment is edited as a complete piece of music * Thematic unity - different selections blend as though one piece of music * Always a finale ending - never a fade, abrupt stop, or unconvincing halt
"The ending turned out really well! Your edit was just perfect." Mary Flood
Woodwind Studios is, quite simply, the best in the business at editing pre-recorded music to perfectly fit choreography. When finished, your engineered music will sound as though especially performed for your freestyle. Some freestyle designers would have you believe that a background in dressage or other sport is a qualification to edit or engineer music; it's not. Only trained specialists with university music degrees can select, edit and engineer music with our degree of expertise.
We don't just tell you we can edit and engineer music to international standards. We prove it! Go to our Client Music page to hear custom freestyles in a variety of musical genres.
Freestyle choreographer, Beth Hall, designs your choreography before she edits the music. This approach assures that your horse's needs aren't compromised in any way. She then edits phrasing and musical highlights to exactly match riding patterns, giving your freestyle the highest degree of interpretation possible. Before designing choreography, Beth asks very detailed questions concerning your horse's best movements and way of working. She diagrams all movements complete with exact striding. The final step is very important and a service all our clients rave about: Beth narrates your choreography with the music to use as a practice aid in learning the freestyle. You'll receive a 3-page article with tips to practice your freestyle.

Riding patterns for this choreography resulted from client response to specific questions, as did degree of difficulty. "Love the music, love the narrative, you did a spectacular job with the editing - the timing, and the fit in the arena are great! I rode to [the music] for the first time with my trainer today and she actually got goose bumps!!" Colene Stevens
Freestyle production scheduling: We schedule freestyles according to the rider's anticipated show date. We can usually design choreography, edit and engineer music, within 2 weeks of your making final music selections. Plan to book your freestyle at least 2 months prior to your show date, especially during spring competition season. We don't accept projects with less than 6 weeks notice.
Restrictions: We guarantee that your custom musical freestyle will never be exactly duplicated. However, Woodwind Studios reserves the right to incorporate any composition or recording in our music library, even if segments of the piece have been used in prior freestyles.
*Once your freestyle is completed, any additional tempo adjustment or music editing, re-designing choreography, or other changes, will be charged at a rate of $50 per hour.
